Some important changes to employment law are coming soon. On 1 October 2015 the following changes are coming into effect:

  1. Employment tribunals will lose the right to make wider recommendations in discrimination cases. They will only be able to make such recommendations when they relate to the individual claimant.
  2. Subject to certain exclusions, self-employed people will become exempt from health & safety laws if they do not have any staff.
  3. The National Minimum Wage increases (adult rate to increase from £6.50 to £6.70).
  4. The right for Sikhs to wear turbans, rather than safety helmets when they are on a building site, will apply to all workplaces.
